12 ways pain makes you stronger

encouragement for the homeschooling mama

This last week I had a phone call to check in with my homeschool ES. We were supposed to go over my plan for the semester, questions about subjects and budget items. She’s called and left a few messages but I didn’t call her back until my kids were away from me. I didn’t want…

when plans go wrong

We drove to Pasadena this morning to see the flower floats from the Rose Bowl parade. When we got there we saw the lines were so long and we were short on time. My mom was with us and she had a flight to catch. As the clock kept clicking down & the line stopped…

gingerbread houses & homemade apple cider

I’m really behind in posting this but for good reason. I went offline during all of last week to be intentionally present with the family. Prepping for Christmas and guests was more than enough for my plate, but I still wanted to share with you the fun night we had before the guests came. I…

To the moms packing lunches, double-checking suppl To the moms packing lunches, double-checking supply lists, wiping tears (theirs or yours or BOTH), and cheering your kids on as they step into a brand new year. ❤️

This season can feel like a whirlwind of emotions—pride, worry, sadness, excitement, exhaustion. But you’re not alone. The Lord is with you.

So here’s your gentle reminder: give yourself grace. Celebrate the small wins. And keep loving those little (or not-so-little) humans with everything you’ve got.

👇 Tag or share this with another mom you’d love to encourage today.

Let’s lift each other up and step into this school year together. 💛

The story behind my brand new book, “What We Fin The story behind my brand new book, “What We Find in the Dark”

I’ve dreamed of writing this book for nearly a decade. At first, I thought I had enough life experience to speak into suffering. But I had no idea how much more was ahead.
Infertility. The loss of all physical things including our home and everything inside of it. Church betrayal. Public slander. Trauma. Loss stacked on loss.
And when I finally submitted the book proposal, I was told, “People don’t want books on suffering anymore.”

But here’s the thing: Following Jesus means suffering with Him. As long as there is breath in our lungs, that will be true. We are promised, assured, and repeatedly told that we will suffer in many different ways, and to not be surprised, but to count it as all joy.

And I believe Christian women don’t want fluff—they want truth. Not words that tickle their ears, and not the emptiness that is found in self-help. They want something tangible and real that anchors them when nothing makes sense.

So I wrote it anyway. I’ve affectionately been calling it a holy defiance.

No publisher. No team. Just me, the Lord, and years upon years of midnight writing sessions in between raising 7 kids and picking up the shrapnel from a shattered life.

This has become a deeply personal message. A passion and a fire — the very anthem of my soul.

It’s hope in the dark. And it’s a prayer that the Lord will see fit to make it all come to life!!!

Tonight, I am sharing my story with you of how I got here in my writing journey and where I am praying to go next!

I’m so grateful for you all! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here on this journey with me!
Today we left our CupKate at college. I believe n Today we left our CupKate at college.

I believe now I understand what the phrase “lovesick” means — to ache with a longing born from love so deep it both hurts and heals at the same time. We walked away proud, grateful, and undone all at once.

Nineteen years of ordinary days led us here — days that, at the time, didn’t feel like they were building to anything this monumental. They were filled with laundry piles, ballet buns, lost leotards, late-night talks, homework at the kitchen table, and countless makings of morning iced-coffee together. And yet, each one was a stitch in the fabric of her story…and mine.

If I have any bit of encouragement from this season I am in it’s to treasure your child, right in the middle of the mess and to keep first things first. Hold them close, speak life into them, pray like crazy over them, and let the little frustrations fade into the background.

One day, you’ll walk them into their dorm room, hug them tight, and drive away. And in that moment, you won’t care about the stains on the carpet, the marker on the wall or the forgotten homework assignments.

You’ll care that you loved them well, pointed them to Jesus, and treasured the gift they’ve always been.

When they’re small the days are long, but the years are so so so short — so keep your eyes steady and fixed on what matters most.

For those, like me, closing a beloved chapter I hope you know it’s okay to grieve. Don’t let anyone tell you to stuff it away, hide it or not feel. Let it out, let it be big, and allow yourself to lament. Change is hard. Letting go is hard.

But there’s room for it all—letting go means allowing yourself to be lovesick—holding both the joy and the grief together…simultaneously.
