I used to be the biggest skeptic about oils, well, and homeschooling, but it would seem that this has been the year/season of re-writing what I used to say I’d say never do. Admittedly I just wrote off what people would say about oils and refused to listen because I had my opinions and they couldn’t be changed. But God….isn’t it funny, well, in my case sad sometimes, how He can break us, which ultimately humbles us and helps us to see things from perspectives that we once swore we never would.

I have now been using Young Living oils for over a year. We use them for everything from cleaning, to skin care, to laundry, to bug bite relief, to motion sickness, to helping prevent sicknesses. I absolutely love having more control, and more knowledge, about what ailments our family is faced with and how to help them myself, rather than simply relying on traditional medicine.

One of our favorite things to do is make roller bottles that are diluted and safe for the kids to have so that they can be a part of knowing what solutions they have access to. I share with them the things I learn, and why I’m using which oil for what purpose, and they are quickly picking up on it too.

I use fractionated coconut oil to dilute and I use a tiny bit in each bottle so as to make sure they are safe for my kids ages. If you’re curious what fractionated means its basically just that it stays liquid and doesn’t turn clumpy. My first set of roller bottles I ever made I got the normal coconut oil and was so bummed when I realized that they had solidified.

Finding cute and practical ways to use our oils is definitely something I am always looking into. One little trick when opening the top of the roller bottles is to use the cap to pop off the little ball roller. Sometimes that breaks the cap, so we found this little shop that has these tiny tools that make it so incredibly simple. Kai and I were able to make a dozen rollers in under 10 minutes.

I gave each of my kids their own roller for Thieves, one with Lavender and one with the Relaxation Massage oil (we rub that on the kids’ feet each night before they go to bed).
