This is the largest one-day food drive in America and last year more than 80 million pounds of non-perishable food was collected. All of the food stays local so whatever you give will be sent to shelters in your city or one nearby.

Saturday, May 13, 2017 is the 25th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Tomorrow letter carriers will be picking up non-perishable food placed in brown paper bags at mailboxes all across the nation. This effort to fight against the hunger in our country has been going on now for 24 straight years and although I’ve only just found out about it this past week it’s not to late to participate.

Letter carriers deliver to every address in America at least 6 days a week and are more than aware of the challenging and heartbreaking situations their customers live in. Alongside the letter carriers, fellow postal service workers, family members, retired postal workers and friends all chip in to serve in collecting and distributing the food. It’s a massive undertaking to be able to serve the community and we wanted to get to be a part of it this year.

Here’s the basics:

  1. collect any non-perishable food items from your house or grocery store
  2. put them in a brown paper bag (our postman actually dropped an official one off at our house just today)
  3. leave the bag with the food inside out by your mailbox on Saturday, May 13th.

If you want to learn more about it you can go to: https://www.nalc.org/food

Also, if you end up doing this tomorrow take a pic, upload it to any social media platform and use the hashtag #StampOutHunger or copy and paste this:

Join me in supporting the Letter Carriers’ #StampOutHunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 13!

to help spread the word.
