Toddler Training: Part 2

Our children desperately need to be lovingly, patiently trained. The role of motherhood is to raise children that grow to be independent, self functioning, and responsible. Taking seriously the role to instruct and train is of utmost importance. Hopefully you read Part 1 in regards to training and the thoughts/motives behind it.  If I’m honest I…

“God told me…” Three words that carry both “God told me…”

Three words that carry both weight and warning.

Because we’ve all seen it—
Faith used like a weapon.

God’s name used like a stamp of approval for decisions that look nothing like His heart.

But just as dangerous is the silence we settle for.

We assume God only speaks to the really spiritual.

Or maybe He speaks only in emergencies.

Or maybe He stopped speaking altogether.

But the God of the Bible is not a God of indifference.

He’s a God who walked in the garden,
called out to prophets,
whispered through the wind,
and took on flesh to speak face-to-face.

The problem isn’t that God doesn’t speak.

It’s that we often stop at the feeling and never check the Source.

The voice of the Spirit will never contradict the Word.

The Spirit is not rogue—
He is in perfect unity with the Father and the Son.

So if the “word” leads you to pride,
to self-glory,
to dismiss people,
to control outcomes,
to avoid humility,
or to sidestep Scripture—
It’s probably not His voice.

God speaks with kindness.

With clarity.

With conviction.

And always, always in step with the character of Jesus.

So don’t be afraid to lean in.
Not to be weird.
Not to impress.

But to listen like a child.

Because His sheep really do hear His voice.
I’ve owned a lot of Bibles over the years— but I’ve owned a lot of Bibles over the years—

Taking care of your body isn’t about obsession.

And it’s definitely not about perfection.

It’s about showing up for your body
like it’s a gift,
not a project.

Because your body isn’t the point—
but it is a vessel.
A place where the Spirit dwells.
A frame that helps you carry out work that matters most.

So if you’re trying to get stronger, feel less sluggish, increase energy, or be more present in your life—
here are 3 practical reminders that have helped me move forward with intention and purpose:

1. Start with Protein
Protein builds lean muscle.
And lean muscle gives you strength, tone, and long-term support for your body.
Before you count carbs or fats—lock this in.
Protein helps you stay full, energized, and more resilient. as a good rule of thumb—aim for 1 gram of protein per pound of your goal weight.

When your body is fueled well,
you don’t just show up physically—
you show up emotionally and spiritually too.

2. Avoid Fats Around Workouts
Fats are essential for hormone health,
but right before and after a workout?
Not so much.

Your body needs carbs as fuel during movement,
and if you eat high-fat meals too close to training, you slow your momentum.

Aim for meals with less than 8 grams of fat
before and after your workout—
so your body can do what it was made to do:
move with strength and power.

3. Don’t Decrease Macros on Rest Days
This one’s counterintuitive.
You might think, “I’m not working out today, so I’ll eat less.”
But don’t.

Workouts break your body down.
Rest days rebuild it.

So what fuels the rebuilding?
Food.

If you’re serious about strength and endurance—
consistency is everything.
Eat well, eat more protein than you think—even when you’re not training.

Fitness doesn’t have to become your identity.
But it can become a faithful rhythm.
A way of saying,
“Thank You, God, for this body—help me take care of it.”

Desire isn’t always birthed from discontent. Desire isn’t always birthed from discontent.
And longing isn’t always from a lack of faith.

Sometimes, it’s the very thing that drives us into the arms of God.

Take Hannah.
Her ache for a child wasn’t selfish or shallow.
It was sacred.
It came from deep within her—and, I believe, was planted there by God Himself.

Her husband, in well-meaning confusion, tried to comfort her:
“Am I not more to you than ten sons?”

But he missed the point.

Because desire isn’t always something to fix.
It’s something to carry.

Hannah wasn’t content to pretend she was okay.

She brought her ache into the presence of God.

And He didn’t scold her for it.

He heard her. He held her.

Even when she was misunderstood by Eli.
Even when she was mocked by Peninnah.
Even when the waiting felt like silence.

God didn’t call her longing sin.
He didn’t call her weeping weakness.
He received it as worship.

Yes, contentment is a good and godly thing (1 Timothy 6:6).
But that doesn’t mean desire is always disobedience.

Sometimes, it’s the holy echo of something eternal we were made for.

“A hope deferred makes the heart sick,” Proverbs says.

And God knows that.

He welcomes the tears.

The ache.

The not-yet.

He doesn’t just tolerate your desire—
He invites you to bring it...to Him.

So whatever it is you’re longing for today,
don’t cover it up, don’t pretend it’s not there.
Don’t bury it.

Lay it before the One who sees.

Because the desire you carry might just be the place where God wants to meet you most.

P.S. if you are one who is longing for a baby, praying for a miracle, hoping to grow your family…i want to encourage you to reach out to my dear friend @alyssahustedt . We share the same passion to come alongside others who are (like we both have) experiencing infertility. Alyssa is the most beautiful soul you’ll ever find and if this is the journey you find yourself on there is no better person to come alongside you than her. If Mother’s Day is heavy for you for this reason, gift yourself the honor of at least checking out who she is and what she does. I promise you won’t regret it. 💕 Alyssa you are a treasure and I love you!
