"And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

For most of history, those words described a beautiful impossibility. There are over 7,000 languages on this earth, and the majority of the people who speak them have never held a Bible they could read — because they can't read at all. They learn by listening. By hearing.

But something has shifted. For the first time in two thousand years, the finish line is actually in view. Not someday. By 2033.

I'm not going to tell you I know when Jesus is coming back. I don't. No one does, and anyone who says otherwise isn't reading the same Bible I am. But I've decided to live as though it's soon. As though it's seven years. Because what if the thing standing between this world and the return of Christ is simply that some people haven't heard yet — and we get to be part of changing that?

I could describe this work all day, but I'd rather you watch it.
First, though, let me tell you what hit me. I don't even know how many Bibles are in my home right now. Between our study Bibles and Matt's and the kids' Bibles and the student Bibles and the ones tucked in nightstands and stacked on shelves — I couldn't count them if I tried. There are too many. I have God's Word in more translations and editions than I will read in my lifetime, sitting in piles, and I've never once thought of it as anything but ordinary.
And then there are people who have never heard it. Not once. Not a single line, in the only language their heart speaks. That undoes me. I think about my kids growing up soaked in Scripture, and I think about a mother somewhere who has never had even one verse to give her children, and I cannot hold those two things in the same hand without my throat tightening.
So watch this. It's only a few minutes. Pay attention to the faces — these are real people hearing Scripture in their own heart language, some of them for the very first time in their lives. Watch what it does to them.

This ministry is headquartered in Albuquerque, NM — a place that was home to us when we were first married and had our first four kids. We've known about the work for more than twenty years.
That's what has convicted us, because knowing about something and giving yourself to it are not the same.
This past year we finally stepped in. I will not to point you toward something I have admired from a safe distance and pretend that was the same as following it.
We're in it now.

Faith Comes By Hearing already has recordings in over 1,500 languages — using oral Bible translation technology that lets non-readers translate Scripture into languages that have never had a written word.
