what is a successful woman?

How do you define success as a mother? Is it the way your kids smell fresh, are perfectly dressed and are perfectly obedient? How do you define success as a homemaker? Is it the way your house is always clean, your laundry folded and put away, and the floors are swept and spotless? How do…

Infertility: Class 101 FAILED

TODAY is October 15th: Infancy Loss Remembrance Day.  On this day we remember the little lives that were ours for only a short while. We honor the sons and daughters that were in our bellies, but are no longer with us on earth. We celebrate the members of our family that we never made eye…

Post-School-Conversations With Your Kids

I now have three kids in elementary school (which seems insane to me!). I love that they love going to class, that they love their friends, and that their teachers really are great. But I confess I miss them terribly when they are gone. I admit I am THAT mom that still gets a little…

Pumpkin Patch Day!

Today we took our little family and drove to a farm about an hour away from our house. We went there last year and LOVED it, so we had to make the effort to go again this year. And I must say…despite the fact that my car read 101′ today, it finally feels like fall!…

Over the past few years, our family has visited a Over the past few years, our family has visited a lot of churches.

Each one had its own personality—different worship styles, teaching approaches, and leadership structures.

But one thing began to stand out to us the more we visited:
Some churches know and teach the Word of God incredibly well… and yet, they do not seem to know how to honor one another, and they do not acknowledge the existence of the Holy Spirit.

They may be Bible-believing churches with solid biblical statements of faith—and yet consistently live in ways that are opposite to the Word they claim to defend.

If you look at the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—and then imagine their opposites… that’s often what you find.

And the heartbreaking part is that their theology is usually sound.

The words are right. But the power source must be considered.

Somewhere along the way, we’ve believed that knowing about God is the same as walking with Him. Abiding in Him is different than being a part of a moral, self-reliant intellectual institution.

Without the Holy Spirit, all our right thinking still leads us wrongly.

There are only two kingdoms available to us.

If we are not abiding in the Holy Spirit, there is only one other source of power we can draw from.

And our own human effort—no matter how noble—always falls under the wrong one.

Maybe what’s missing in the modern church, and our hunt to find a good one, isn’t doctrine, ministry opportunity, structure or strategy.

Maybe what’s missing…is the Spirit.

I am praying for those of you in a season of looking for a church. I know how challenging it can be. But don’t choose a church simply for the kids ministry, the building or the entertainment…be wise as serpents in the shepherd you choose to sit under. If the Holy Spirit is not welcomed, there’s only one other power source available…and it’s not holy.

🕊️ “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.” — Zechariah 4:6
Waiting can feel like a holding cell. Like life Waiting can feel like a holding cell.
Like life was put on pause.
Like maybe God has forgotten.

Joseph. I really like him. I’m sure he knew that feeling. (He is someone I am excited to meet in Heaven.)

He was wrongfully imprisoned, and forgotten by from Pharaoh’s cup-bearer. I wonder what his thought life and prayer life were like in those years.
(Genesis 40:14-15, 23)

Moses likely knew that feeling too.
He reminded Israel that their forty years in the wilderness were not wasted years, but I am sure at times he questioned.

God was humbling them, teaching them dependence, shaping their hearts to trust His Word., but that probably wasn’t easy.
(Deuteronomy 8:2-4)

Seasons of waiting often feel unjust or…endless.

But I know this deep down and I refuse to believe anything else, this season (and others like it) are not ever meaningless.

God often does His deepest work in hidden years—as He is forming character, teaching reliance, preparing us for what lies ahead.

He is forging in us something eternal, and although it’s east to lose sight of that end we must not give in to the lie that the season of waiting is worthless.

If you’re like us, and are waiting on the Lord for something right now—
for healing, for reconciliation, for provision, for a prayer to be answered—
remember that God’s timing is not careless.
His delays are not denials.
What feels like an unanswered prayer is most certainly preparation.

You (we) are not forgotten.
You (we) are being purposefully formed.
We can trust Him.

From my Journal entry 10/5/2025
I’m just a tree, planted by streams of Living Wa I’m just a tree, planted by streams of Living Water, with roots that go deep. He must increase…🍃
Real compassion takes work. A lot of it. Real compassion takes work.

A lot of it.

You can’t fake it with a quick emoji or a comment that sounds empathetic but costs you nothing.
You can’t merely send a Bible verse, or a quick catch phrase, and move on.
You can’t show up only when it’s convenient, comfortable, and well-lit.

No, real compassion is inconvenient.
It lingers when things get awkward.
It leans in when everyone else leans out.
It listens longer than it wants to,
asks questions instead of assuming answers,
and stays at the table when every instinct says,
“You don’t owe them anything.”

Because compassion isn’t just a feeling.
It’s a choice.

Just like love, because compassion IS love.

Love is a costly choice.

It costs time.
It costs comfort.
Sometimes it costs your pride.

But it’s the kind of cost Jesus never flinched at.

He knelt in the dirt beside the woman caught in adultery.
He wept with grieving sisters.
He touched the leper.
He drew near to the sick, the blind, the lame.
He forgave the ones crucifying Him.

Love didn’t just move Him emotionally.
It moved Him physically—toward pain, toward…people.

And if we’re following Him,
it will move us too.

Live the kind of Love that costs something. live the kind of Love that makes others confused.

That’s the kind that changes the world.
