fighting morning sickness with pink stork
**I think its really important that as you read this post to note that Pink Stork has not paid me for this review. All thoughts and opinions are completely my own and aside from the initial trial products that were sent to me for free I have not benefited from this company in any financial way. I simply have written this review from my own desire to support this company and help other pregnant mamas who are sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Truth be told I have a very difficult time enjoying pregnancy.
From multiple trips to the ER and urgent care, to throwing up dozens of times a day, to losing excessive weight, to IV’s, to medications, preterm labor and even bedrest etc…
I am now 22 weeks with our 6th baby and am feeling great. I’m eating and drinking like normal, am not taking any medicine anymore from my doctor, and haven’t thrown up in at least 3 weeks.
Fairly early on in my pregnancy I had written out a caption on an Instagram photo about how sick and nauseous I was. A company called Pink Stork saw that post and reached out to me to offer support, as well as some trial products from their supplement line to see if they could at all be of help.
If I’m honest I was extremely skeptical that anything would/could work. This isn’t my first go around and every doctor I’ve ever had has simply given me medication and told me the nausea would eventually pass.
Despite my doubts I accepted the offer thinking that any hope of easing my misery was worth a try. That night I began to read through the information on the website and quickly realized that this company was addressing the issues of Hyperemesis from a completely different angle than I’d ever heard of.
The medications I’d always been given were to treat the symptoms of the nausea. I’ve taken everything from Phenergan, to Unisom, to Zofran to Diclegis….
Pink Stork was addressing what they believe to be the root of the problem: the gut.
Alright…so let’s pause here for a sec…I had always been told it was the raging hormones and the placenta being formed that was the issue.
Never had I heard anything about the gut!
At first I was slightly put off at the idea that my “gut” would be the problem. I normally am very careful about what I eat and my overall health. I workout consistently and am cautious about the kinds of foods I fill my diet with. So to find out that my extreme nausea could potentially be from a lack of proper nutrition seemed a bit far fetched given my active lifestyle.
But I was desperate. So incredibly sick, and very desperate.
I got the box of supplements in the mail a few days later and poured over the instructions for each item. Some were to be taken at night, some during the day, some in the morning. I set everything up on my dresser and mapped out a little regime deciding I’d start that evening with the first round.
I slept well that night but the next morning was still the same as it had been. Extreme nausea as soon as my eyes opened. Dizziness, overtired, and vomiting for most of the day.
But I continued on with my plan.
By that evening something began to feel different. It was noticeable that I wasn’t quite as bad as I had been. I remember standing in the kitchen making my kids food while Matt was at work late that night and thinking that I was surprised I could open my refrigerator without throwing up.
After dinner that same night I put all five of my kids to bed, by myself, also without throwing up. Granted I was exhausted, but not spending my evening over a trash can made the time so much more manageable.
Buuuuuuut…I don’t just believe in things that easily. I decided to continue on with my little regime for a few more weeks. For the most part I felt like I could really manage the nausea. Every now and then something more severe would happen and I’d still throw up. For example, I remember one night coming home really late and we were on a curvy road after being up all day, and I did still get sick after we got home.
However, the occurrences of throwing up multiple times a day had subsided.
I started to wonder if it was actually the supplements helping or if it was just that the pregnancy itself had gotten easier.
So, one night I decided to stop taking everything…just to see what would happen.
I went to bed like normal, slept well, but woke up with full blown nausea again. That next day I remember counting that I had thrown up 6 times. By that evening I was back to taking any supplements that I could keep down.
After another full day of taking all of the supplements my nausea improved again and although I was still exhausted and had to still be careful with extreme circumstances (not getting enough rest, staying away from some specific foods, not getting overheated, and not getting car sick) I was able to manage the days without throwing up multiple times.
A few more weeks went by and I began to wonder again. Once more I decided to try to get off of them to see what would happen. And the same thing resulted. Woke up the next day to throw up multiple times.
All of this to say I know that not everything works for every person. These supplements likely aren’t the end all be all for every single person and/or situation I’m sure. But if sharing my experience with Pink Stork could help just one more person it’s worth it. And I’m confident that even if it doesn’t completely cure all of the nausea it will provide some relief as well as whatever necessary nutrients mama and baby need to have as healthy of a pregnancy as possible.
Here’s a list of the specific items I use:
Please let me know if you have any more questions or if I can help you in any way.
*And in full disclosure, I also have been using my Sea Bands, Young Living Essential Oils and Diclegis from my doctor (a half a dose only at nighttime) as well.
I have also been dealing with hyperemesis. This is my second pregnancy and while it hasn’t been quite as bad as the first, it’s still been rough! I saw this post totally randomly so I thought, why not try it! I have been taking the gut health/cocolaurin, probiotic and using the magnesium mist for about 4 days now and i seriously felt better today than I have so far this entire pregnancy (24 weeks). Thanks for the rec’s!
Oh that is so amazing to hear!!! With every woman and every pregnancy it can all be so different…I love that these supplements have helped you too!!! So glad you tried them and have found some relief!
